Activism in the Time of Gaza Genocide and Its Impact on Islamophobia
ILKE Agenda seminar series focused on the dynamics of global activism and Islamophobia, with a particular emphasis on the Palestinian cause. The seminar highlighted the rise and impact of global civil society actions against Israel and in support of Palestine. Non-Muslims across the United States and Europe have shown solidarity by standing shoulder to shoulder with Muslims in unified resistance. This collective movement has not only bolstered activism but also led to numerous conversions to Islam, demonstrating the profound influence of global activism.
Muhammad Al Attar discussed the evolution and impact of activism. Khaled Beydoun, a law professor at Wayne State University and author of "American Islamophobia: Understanding the Roots and Rise of Fear," examined how global activism can transform Islamophobic rhetoric in the U.S. and Europe. The seminar underscored the vital role of solidarity movements in challenging and changing prevailing narratives and policies, highlighting the need for continued advocacy and legal efforts to combat discrimination and promote human rights.
