This conference will try to present the preliminary outlines of a theory of the geopolitics of the Islamic World, and to explore the place of the Islamic World within the grand geopolitical theories, from the nineteenth century to the present. It will explain how the role of this region was that of a passive dependent not an active participant, and how the Islamic World was seen by Western geopolitical theorists as a part of a battleground for the intrusive great powers, not as a serious player in strategic equations.
