The Conference on Contemporary Muslim Thought Ends with a Warm Reception

The Conference on Contemporary Muslim Thought a collaborative effort between the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) and the ILKE Foundation's Platform Magazine, unfolded at the Centre for Islamic Studies in Istanbul. The conference, attended by numerous Muslim scholars from different countries, delved into the challenges and complexities of the Muslim world, with a special emphasis on Gaza.

Leading intellectuals came together to discuss current state and future prospects of contemporary Islamic thought in the domains of politics, economics, society, law, international relations, and culture. Conducted across 8 sessions, the Conference on Contemporary Muslim Thought featured 35 intellectuals in the field. The conference stood as a beacon of critical analysis and is intended to delve deeper into the problems, trends, and ongoing developments of the Muslim world.

The opening speech of the conference was delivered by Lütfi Sunar, Chairman of the Board of ILKE Foundation. Sunar emphasized that "The issue of Palestine's occupation stands out as one of the most Eurocentric products of colonialism and anti-Muslim culture. For generations, Palestinians have grappled with displacement conflicts, striving for self-determination. Sunar conveyed his optimism about the future, envisioning that the two days spent at the conference would serve as the inception of a more liberated and just path for Muslim societies.

In his address, Ayhan Çitil, a Board Member of the Center for Islamic Studies (ISAM), highlighted the challenges faced by Muslim academicians within the academic realm. He emphasized the importance of providing a platform for Muslim activities to thrive in academia, stating, "We must pave the way for the realization of Muslim initiatives within the academic sphere."

The concluding opening speech of the conference was delivered by Abdullah Eren, the President of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB). In his address, Eren stated, "In the attacks where Israel particularly occupies Palestinian territories, especially Gaza, innocent civilians, regardless of age or gender, are subjected to oppression. This disgrace is the failure of international organizations that have lost their functionality.

Over the course of the two-day conference, numerous distinguished scholars and thinkers, including Heba Raouf Ezzat, Wadah Khanfar, Muhammad al-Mukhtar al-Shinqiti, Salman Sayyid, Sari Hanafi, Ovamir Anjum, Adeel Malik, Syed Farid Alatas, presented their insights.
