Famous Political Scientist M Mohtar al Shinqiti Explains the Changing Geo-Politics of the Muslim World

Famous scholar, academician and political scientist Dr. Mohammad Mohtar Al Shinqiti adressed a conference at ILKE Foundation on Wednesday December 07, 2022 that was held under the theme "The Geopolitics of the Muslim World in a Transition Time". The conference was attended by many notables including ILKE's chairman, Prof. Dr. Lutfi Sunar, famous journalists Turan Kislakci, Kemal Ozturk and Aslan Balci and well known names from civil society and academia including Dr. Huseyin Mercan and Dr. Idlus Rafikov.
Dr. Shinqiti who is a senior faculty member at Qatar University and has expertise in philosophy of religion, international affairs, political science and geopolitics presented the preliminary outlines of a theory of the geopolitics of the Islamic World, and explored the place of the Islamic World within the grand geopolitical theories, from the nineteenth century to the present. He explained how the role of this region was that of a passive dependent not an active participant, and how the Islamic World was seen by Western geopolitical theorists as a part of a battleground for the intrusive great powers, not as a serious player in strategic equations. The guest speaker concluded with a few thoughts on the potentiality of transforming the Islamic World from a geopolitical void into an active and self-assertive global power, and how Turkiye can play a crucial role in this potential transformation. Towards the end, a plaque was presented to the speaker by ILKE's chairman, Prof. Dr. Lutfi Sunar.
