Category: News History: 18 May 2022

ILKE Foundation Research Centre for Social Thought and Policy (TODAM) hosted Khaled A. Beydoun, a professor of law at Wayne State University and author, on May 18, 2022, at the ILKE Foundation.

In the program organized by the İLKE Foundation in partnership with the Migration Research Foundation and Droplets of Mercy, Khaled A. Beydoun's book "American Islamophobia: Understanding the Roots and Rise of Fear" was discussed. At the same time, the rising wave of Islamophobia in the world was also discussed within the framework of this book. Mentioning three types of Islamophobia, namely structural, personal and dialectical, Beydoun stated that structural Islamophobia triggers personal anti-Islamism and claimed that this situation creates a dialectic. According to him, the Global War on Terror campaign has encouraged new anti-Muslim campaigns around the world by exporting the rhetoric and logic of Islamophobia.

Noting that there is a 78% increase in hate crimes against Muslims in America today with the data he has revealed, he emphasized that Islam constitutes the most racially diverse faith group in the United States, despite the fact that the existence of Islam in America reduced to a specific racial group within the framework of laws and rhetoric.Khaled A. Beydoun concluded his presentation by mentioning the need to combat anti-Islamism, which is a global phenomenon, in an intellectual sense.

After the presentation of activist-writer Khaled Beydoun, the program ended with a question-and-answer session held about the book “Islamophobia in America”, which has been translated into Turkish by GAV Perspective Publications.
