Lütfi Sunar completed his undergraduate studies in International Relations and Economics at Istanbul Bilgi University in 2002, and earned his PhD in Sociology from Istanbul University in 2010. His research focuses on sociological theory, Orientalism, the concept of the Other, and social change and stratification in Turkey.

He currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Sociology at Istanbul Medeniyet University. Sunar has authored and edited numerous publications, including Marx ve Weber’de Doğu Toplumları (Oriental Societies in Marx and Weber), Türkiye’de İş Ortaklıkları (Business Partnerships in Turkey), Marx and Weber on Oriental Societies, Türkiye’de Toplumsal Değişim (Social Change in Turkey), Eurocentrism at the Margins, and Debates on Civilization in the Muslim World.
