Nurullah Altaş graduated from the Faculty of Theology at Ankara University in 1995. He completed his master's degree at the Institute of Social Sciences, Ankara University, in 1997, and his Ph.D. at the same institute in 2001. He was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2005 and became a Professor in 2009.

His research focuses on topics such as multicultural religious education, the methodology of religious education science, the theology of religious education, special teaching methods in religious education, field education, and religious counseling. Altaş has published various books, editions, articles, and conference papers examining the effects of religious education in formal and non-formal educational settings.
